Yarmouth at a Glance
At the heart of Nova
Scotia's Acadian community is Yarmouth, a town known for its unique heritage
and rich history. Yarmouth's location on the southeast end of the Nova Scotian
peninsula makes it a common entry point for visitors from the Eastern United
States, who seem to fall in love with the area's extraordinary French maritime
charm. The town is well-known for its uniquely-shaped Cape
Forchu Lighthouse, although Yarmouth has a number of other must-see attractions,
including the Killam
Bros. Shipping Office, an historic site which dates back to the 1800s, and
now has the distinction of being Canada's oldest postal outlet. Water enthusiasts
will love the nearby Mavillette
and Port
Maitland beaches, where the view is as powerful as the rolling ocean tides.
The famous Yarmouth
Seafest happens every July and features a variety of festivities, including
fireworks, a pageant and, of course, a fish feast.
