Windsor Historic Sites & Interpretive Centres
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Historic Sites & Interpretive Centres in Windsor, Atlantic Canada.
This historic site has the last surviving blockhouse in Canada, the oldest original structure of its kind in the country. The last remaining building in Fort Edwards was built on 1750 by Major Charles Lawrence. The fort was a major assembly point for the 1755 deportation of the Acadians. Admission is free, and the fort is open from June 22 to September 4.
Relive the lives of the Shand family walking through this Victorian house, built in 1890. The then-modern ammenities, including central heating, electric lighting and even indoor plumbing, have been preserved, as have the original furnishings. The house also showcases the carriage used by the Shand children and the trophies won by Clifford Shand for racing on his high-wheeled bicycle.
