The Halifax Citadel was constructed between 1828 and 1856. Now a registered Canadian Heritage Site, the large star-shaped masonry structure includes a defensive ditch, musketry gallery, powder magazine, garrison cells, guard room, barracks and school room. Every day at noon, the gun is fired and can be heard in many parts of Halifax. Guided tours are offered.
